After the Birth
Pediatric Exam
Within 24 hours of the birth and once again before discharge, your child will be examined by a pediatrician. If your pediatrician is not associated with Signature Healthcare, or if you do not have a pediatrician, your obstetrician may arrange for a Signature Healthcare pediatrician to care for your child while you are here.
Feeding
We believe your decision to breast or bottle feed your baby is an important and personal choice. In order for you to make the best decision for you and your family, you should be well informed about these choices. Our childbirth education programs can help you make your decision. Your nurse can help you with your feeding choices while you are in the suite and help you make arrangements necessary for discharge. The Maternal-Newborn Pavilion has a certified lactation consultant, specially trained in breastfeeding support, should you choose to breastfeed your new baby. After hospital discharge there is a postpartum breastfeeding education support program available to assist you as well as a breastfeeding warmline at 508-941-7353.
Circumcision
Circumcisions are performed with parental consent during the hospital stay. Our nurses and your pediatrician can discuss medical aspects of circumcision and will provide instructions regarding your child’s care after the procedure.
Before Going Home Car Seat
You will need a car seat before leaving with your child. Please familiarize yourself with your car seat before coming to the hospital by reviewing your car seat instructions and practice securing it in your car.
Financial Arrangements
Financial questions or concerns can be directed to our financial counselors at 508-941-7283. We recommend the completion and prompt return of pre-registration forms as it will facilitate the administrative part of your hospital stay.
