Concussions affect all levels of student athletes, from middle school through college. Massachusetts recently enacted a "concussion law," part of which requires school coaches to participate in a wellness program including first aid instruction, and recognizing signs of head injuries and drug or steroid use. Signature Healthcare's SportSmart program offers an opportunity for education, safety and prevention for athletic trainers, coaches and parents - teaching the signs and symptoms of concussion and helping students perform at their healthiest.
ImPACT is a program used at all levels to create baselines for athletes, so when they experience a concussion, there is a way to measure against their normal reaction time. You cannot “grade” a concussion, the same hit to the head affects different people in different ways. Every single athlete at a professional level does the ImPact test as a baseline. The test shows us a combination of memory, spatial recognition, color recognition, word recognition, reaction time and irritability.
Even if your child has not established a baseline with the ImPACT test, if they experience a concussion, they must be cleared by a physician before returning to play. Signature Healthcare’s ImPACT trained and certified Emergency Department physicians are available to see your student athlete for an examination. If you are interested in more information on the program, please call 855-60-SPORT (77678).
Patient Feedback

"I was in the E.R. on Thanksgiving Day with my son Timothy who suffered a mild concussion in his High School football game…I just want to take a moment to recognize the professionalism, ability and personable nature of everyone that we came into contact with...I was very satisfied with our treatment on that day. It is comforting to have such a great hospital and more importantly such excellent care within minutes of our home. Tim is just fine, and he won his football game on Thanksgiving despite East Bridgewater being huge underdogs!"

"I'm writing to tell you of a fantastic experience we had a the Brockton Hospital ER. My daughter Rianna was taken off the soccer field yesterday by ambulance and transported to Brockton. The minute we entered the department, the staff was so compassionate, so attentive, kind and considerate, while at the same time, extremely professional. Honestly, everyone, even the woman who took our information was fabulous. Rianna's nurse, Sean Conley, was there with a smile whenever we needed him. Dr Grini was amazing. He explained everything that was going on and why, and even though I'm sure he had other patients, he made us feel like Rianna was the only one. The Emergency Room staff at Brockton Hospital were wonderful. I have so much confidence in their ability and respect for how they do it."
