Helen Greene Cardiac Catheterization Suite

The Helen Greene Cardiac Catheterization Suite at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital offers the most technologically advanced treatment for many diagnostic and cardiovascular procedures.  Completed in 2007 thanks to a $1 million gift from the Greene family, owners of the W.B. Mason Company, the 3,000-square foot unit is comprised of two fully digital catheterization labs.  Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital was one of the first community hospitals outside of Boston permitted to perform emergency angioplasties.
The technology in the Greene Cardiac Catheterization Suite includes:

Intravascular Ultrasound

Using intravenous ultrasound, physicians can look inside blood vessels to get an accurate reading of plaque levels.

AngioJet

The AngioJet, attached to a catheter, shoots saline solution at a high speed into an artery to dissolve dangerous plaque and clots in patients with coronary artery disease.  The tiny pieces of plaque are then vacuumed back into the catheter so the entire clot is removed.  The AngioJet can treat plaque build-up in either the heart or the legs.

Radial Stenting

Our interventional cardiologists offer an innovative approach of performing cardiac catheterization and angioplasty called the "transradial approach." Cardiac catheterization is performed to diagnose blockages in the heart arteries. Patients with these blockages and are symptomatic may undergo angioplasty and or stent implantation to alleviate them. Typically these procedures are performed using the vessels that run in the groin area. The transradial approach utilizes the radial artery that is located in the wrist. Usually patients who undergo procedures utilizing this approach experience fewer complications and can move around as soon as the procedure is finished. The transradial approach significantly increases the comfort of our patients.

Advanced X-Rays

Signature physicians use advanced x-ray technology to diagnose peripheral vascular disease (PVD) - a narrowing of the vessels carrying blood to the arms, legs, kidneys or stomach.  PVD places patients at a higher risk of heart attack or stroke but once diagnosed can often be managed with lifestyle changes.
