Preparing for Birth

What to Bring
You will need a nightgown or pajamas (suitable for nursing, if necessary), a robe and slippers. Also bring personal toiletries and going home clothes for you and your baby.

Do not bring any valuables such as expensive jewelry. You will need only a small amount of cash for incidental items like magazines or newspapers that you may wish to purchase during your hospital stay.

The Experience of Birth
When you go into labor, call your obstetrician. If he or she instructs you to come to the hospital, go directly to the admitting desk in the Emergency Department. You will be directed to the Labor & Delivery suite on the 4th floor of the hospital.

There is a special early labor lounge for the care and comfort of expectant mothers who require outpatient services, and a private cesarean-section surgical suite and recovery room.

Taking photographs or videotaping is allowed before and after the birth but not during the actual delivery. We have found that photographing the delivery is too distracting for everyone involved. There is no cell phone use in the Maternal-Newborn Pavilion
