Carotid Artery Disease is the build-up of plaque in the blood vessels that lead to the brain, known as the carotid artery. This build-up can lead to serious blood flow restriction and can often cause stroke.
A stroke occurs when part of the brain is damaged due to this restricted blood flow. Unfortunately, many times a stroke is the first sign of Carotid Artery Disease, but many times other warning signs are present in advance. They are feeling weakness or numbness on one side of your body, being unable to control movement in an arm or leg, losing vision in one eye, and experiencing slurred speech.
