Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and Signature Medical Group named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Honor Roll

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and Signature Medical Group were both recently recognized in Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s 2013 Hospital and Physician Group Honor Rolls. The hospital was one of only 11 in Massachusetts to be honored and Signature Medical Group was once again named to the Physician Group Honor roll, being one of only 55 groups honored in Massachusetts.

The Hospital Honor Roll, according to Harvard Pilgrim, recognizes adult, acute care hospitals who performed within the top 25% of those measured nationally on a set of composite quality and patient experience measures, using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The evaluation focused on processes of care in four categories: cardiac, pneumonia, surgery – preventing infections, and surgery – preventing complications. Patient surveys measuring patient hospital experiences were also reviewed. Finally, Harvard Pilgrim also factored in CMS patient safety measures including healthcare associated infections, hospital acquired conditions, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality patient safety composite scores.

The Physician Group Honor roll highlights physician groups which have received excellent results in their approach to disease prevention and the handling of acute and chronic illness for both adult and pediatric patients.

The selection process measures physician group clinical performance against standards set by the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information set, an instrument developed for the National Committee for Quality Assurance to evaluate the performance of doctors and other medical professionals. Harvard Pilgrim evaluates physician performance in three different categories including: acute, chronic, and preventative care. The groups are then identified as Honor Roll worthy practices on a points earned basis for performance on 16 measures, such as appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infections and breast cancer screenings.
