Highlighting its achievements in patient safety and quality, Signature Medical Group was again named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s 17th annual Physician Group Honor Roll, this time “With Distinction.”  Sixty-one physician groups in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut were named to the Honor Roll. However, only twelve of the sixty-one practices on the Physician Group Honor Roll achieved “With Distinction” status, meaning they exceeded the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)’s 90th percentile nationally in all domains of clinical care.

Physician groups were selected based on clinical performance measured against national standards set by HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set), a tool developed to assess the clinical performance of doctors and other medical professionals.

They looked at performance in three domains of clinical care affecting both adult and pediatric patients: acute, chronic and preventive care. Physician groups were identified as Honor Roll practices based on points earned for performance on 16 measures such as appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infection, comprehensive diabetes care, and breast cancer screenings.

“The proof is in the recognition, and we are highly ranked nationally again and again on the quality care we deliver to patients,” said Kim Hollon, Signature Healthcare, President & CEO. “On many public measures we perform within the top 25 percent or top 10 percent nationally, regardless of the size of organization.  As a community-based non-profit we treat a range of patients – many of whom might have delayed medical care or have multiple co-morbidities in advanced stages.  They may have transportation challenges, lower medical literacy or difficulty affording medications.  In spite of these challenges we perform at the top of many measures.”

“We are honored to partner with these exceptional physician groups and we congratulate each of them on their outstanding performance on national quality benchmarks,” said Michael Carson, President and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. “We recognize these physicians for their outstanding dedication to quality, patient safety and for the exceptional health care they provide our members.”
