The Utmost Care and Respect
Thursday, July 11, 2019
I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you what a wonderful experience my family recently had with Signature Healthcare. My son Ethan, who is 3 ½ years old, had a scheduled adenoidectomy and ear tubes removed. From the moment we walked through the door, we were treated with the utmost care and respect.
In particular, I was most impressed with the nursing staff in the day surgery ward. Barbara, our pre-op nurse was wonderful at engaging my son and trying to walk him through what to expect. Ethan has a communication disorder and with his limited communication skills, Barbara did an excellent job at visually taking Ethan through step by step what to expect and explaining things in a way that would reassure him and make him feel comfortable. They even allowed both my husband and me to accompany Ethan into the operating room to help ease his nerves (and ours!).
After the surgery, the post operation nurses were equally amazing. Ethan had a difficult time coming out of the anesthesia, and the nurses Patricia (Trish) and Lees were incredible. As my husband and I did all that we could do to sooth Ethan, Trisha and Lees were right there accommodating anything we needed, including bringing in a rocking chair, different types of beverages, Popsicles, etc. You name it, they were there assisting, never leaving our side. Between their assistance and the need for three consecutive narcotic level painkillers, Ethan finally calmed down. There was a short period of time during the recovery where my husband and I just felt helpless and didn’t know how we could ease our son’s pain, but Trisha and Lees were right by our side reassuring us that everything would be fine. Dr. O’Brien performed the surgery and as always, was so patient, answered all of our questions, and was very caring and professional when I called him twice over the weekend with aftercare concerns.
I was also so touched that while Ethan was in surgery, I quickly ran to the Honey Dew Donuts in the hospital’s entry way, and following my conversation with Jo, the cashier, regarding Ethan’s surgery, she wouldn’t accept payment for my order and simply said, “This is for your son and have a Happy Easter.” It was a true act of kindness that really touched me; there needs to be more people like Jo in the world. This is the 3rd time where my family has had an exceptional experience with Signature Healthcare and I wanted to convey my respect and appreciation for the incredible work that the hospital does and the lives that you help make better!
