Appointments & Referrals

We believe our distinctive Signature Healthcare team approach is the way healthcare should be:
medical professionals across many locations communicating and collaborating, taking advantage of technologies and resources to make a difference in the lives and health of our patients.

As your medical home, we will work with you to coordinate all your healthcare needs, including referrals to specialty care, as needed. As a patient at Signature Medical Group you will have a care team who will provide you access to evidence based patient care and education as well as self management support.

Your care team starts with you and includes your primary care provider, nurses, certified medical assistant and medical receptionists. Other experts will join your team based on your needs. You can request an appointment with your provider through our Patient Portal. Even if your insurance plan does not require a referral to see a specialist, we suggest you seek guidance from your primary care provider for the most appropirate specialist for your needs.

What if I don’t have a Primary Care Provider?

Please contact Patient Services for assistance in getting a Signature Medical Group PCP. You may reach them by calling 508-894-0304 or e-mailing Appts@Signature-Healthcare.org.

What if I need a referral?

Your primary care provider will work with you to establish a new relationship with a specialist within the Signature Medical Group family including any ancillary services, including blood work, radiology and testing. Tertiary referrals will be provided by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by your Primary Care Provider.

When you see a Signature Healthcare Specialist, or get tests at Signature Healthcare, you will have ONE TEAM working for you. This gives you high quality care in the most coordinated way - where your whole team works together to meet your needs. If the services you need are not available at Signature Healthcare, we will connect you to care within the Signature Healthcare family. These specialists work closely with your care team to understand your health and meet your needs.

Referrals must be requested 5 days prior to a visit with a specialist. If you see a specialist without the referral required by your health plan, you will be responsible for the entire bill (not just a co-payment or deductible).

If you have a question about a referral, please contact your primary care physician or the referral navigator at 508-565-3278 or PatientAppeals@Signature-Healthcare.org.

What if I am referred to a specialist?

If your insurance plan requires a referral before seeing a specialist, you must contact your primary care provider for a referral before receiving follow-up care from any specialist recommended by your provider. Even if your insurance plan does not require a referral before seeing a specialist, Signature Healthcare suggests that you consult your primary care provider before seeing a specialist so we can help you get the right care, in the right setting, at the right time.

How does my health insurance affect my referrals to specialists?

Each health insurer has different requirements regarding approvals needed before receiving care from a specialist. Contact your health insurer for more information about the requirements for your particular health plan. Your health insurer’s contact information can be found on your insurance card.
